Like a child who sees himself in the mirror for the first time, he is full of self-awareness of his feelings and behaviors. He realizes that he has the freedom to change things about himself and change how he feels about his duties and the pranks of the cat. He realizes that he can create the life that he wants. When Hyperion begins to have self-awareness, he is surprised that another house bot does not. He often worries that he will be replaced. Being able to identify feelings and how they work is one component emotional intelligence. (See Hyperion in action in Book 1, 2, 9)
