Metacognition—thinking about your thinking—is a powerful skill that helps kids learn better and understand themselves. When children reflect on how they learn and solve problems, they become stronger, more independent learners.

Teachers know that students improve when given time to reflect. Parents can help too by encouraging kids to plan, monitor, and evaluate their efforts. For example:

  • Before a task: “I’ll build a tall tower starting with a wide base.” (Planning)
  • During the task: “This block is wobbly. I need a bigger base.” (Monitoring)
  • After the task: “Next time, I’ll use bigger blocks to build it taller.” (Reflection)

When kids develop this self-awareness, they start asking important questions: What do you want to be when you grow up? What makes you feel happy? What makes you feel brave?

In this episode, Hyperion begins to ask these questions too, growing into a thoughtful role model who understands others’ perspectives.
