Self-control takes practice and requires effort, intention, and even sometime struggle. Have you ever heard your parents say, “Think before you speak?” They are trying to help guide you into managing yourself. Hyperion learns to handle his emotions as they come up and manage them with positive self-talk. If he becomes angry, he knows how to calm himself down. Hyperion shows that self-regulation is more powerful than bad behavior. You will discover that to control your own behavior, emotions, and thoughts you must be driven by a dream or some long-term goal. Hyperion yearns to be accepted and loved for who he is with all his imperfections. Children learn the importance of managing disruptive emotions and impulses. (See Hyperion in action in Book 1, 2)
